Cyber-Physical Systems

The term Cyber-Physical Systems describes computer systems that directly interact with and influence the environment. Typical application areas of cyber-physical systems are automation and transport systems.

In contrast to standard IT systems, non-functional properties (e.g. safety, reliability, distributed execution, energy efficiency) and timing play an important role in Cyber-Physical Systems.

Key Research Areas

Competence Areas
Competence Areas

The research within the CPS group focuses on the following aspects

  • Modeling theory with a focus on specification on timing and non-functional properties
  • Tool support for the development of domain-specific model-driven development tools (in cooperation with Group Software&Systems Engineering)
  • (Middleware) architectures related to non-functional properties
  • Enabling technologies such as parallel programming and real-time communication protocols
  • Formal methods and their integration into model-driven development tools
