RESONANCE

Replicable and efficient solutions for optimal management of cross-sector energy

RESONANCE

The RESONANCE (Replicable and Efficient Solutions for Optimal Management of Cross-sector Energy) project is creating a software framework for plug-and-play development of solutions for demand-side flexibility management of distributed and small-scale assets.

Project description

The RESONANCE project will address the needs on interoperable, secure, and cost-efficient data exchange as well as automated modelling and control of flexible assets with a twofold approach. First, fortiss provides a narrow-waist approach for interoperability that builds upon open application programming interfaces (APIs) and existing standards, but also directly contributes to the ongoing standardization process. This makes it possible to reduce the entry barriers and costs related to communication and data exchange both within customer premises and with the aggregators/markets.

Second, fortiss develops an innovative automated modelling pipeline for flexible assets that enables the development of optimal models and MPC systems with minimal human effort. This allows small and medium-sized companies (SMEs), start-ups, and industry to model and manage the flexibility from the smart appliances in a plug-and-play manner.

Research contribution

RESONANCE will develop an innovative software framework that provides the means to develop and deploy standard-compliant Customer Energy Management (CEM), Resource Manager (RM) and aggregation solutions in a plug-and-play manner. The CEM is an innovative concept and represents a fundamental change to the role of consumers/prosumers from passive recipients to active participants in the cross-sector energy ecosystem.

In this regard, the CEM concept has the potential to revolutionize demand-side flexibility management and enable new consumer-oriented services ranging from local control to AI-based automatic demand response and cross-sector energy management.
