fortiss is the research Institute of the Free State of Bavaria for software-intensive systems. Our mission is to shape digital research so that it reaches practical application—reliably, scalably, and sustainably. We contribute to competitiveness, digital sovereignty, and a strong innovation ecosystem. n close collaboration with academia as well as partners from industry, business, and public administration, we develop excellent solutions to the most pressing challenges of the digital world.

Our focus areas are Software & Systems Engineering, AI Engineering and IoT Engineering, with cross-industry expertise ranging from automotive and energy to public administration and production. fortiss particularly supports SMEs and founders through technology transfer.

fortiss is a non-profit GmbH, jointly owned by the Free State of Bavaria (2/3) and the Fraunhofer Society (1/3). The institute receives institutional funding from the Free State of Bavaria and is academically affiliated with the Technical University of Munich.
