fortiss is the Research Institute of the Free State of Bavaria for software-intensive systems. As a bridge between academia and industry, we conduct application-oriented research in the fields of software, artificial intelligence, and the Internet of Things in a practical, scalable, and sustainable manner. In doing so, we make an important contribution to innovation, competitiveness, and digital sovereignty.

In close collaboration with our partners from industry, trade associations, and public administration, we develop excellent solutions to the challenges of digital transformation.

With our cross-industry expertise in the automotive, aerospace, energy, manufacturing, medical, financial, and administrative sectors, we support small and medium-sized enterprises in particular with technology transfer.

fortiss is a nonprofit limited liability company (GmbH) owned by the Free State of Bavaria and the Fraunhofer Society. The institute is funded by the Free State of Bavaria and is scientifically affiliated with the Technical University of Munich.
