Interdisciplinary exchange on future internet technologies
The Munich Internet Research Retreat (MIR³) is a forum for academic and industrial researchers to present current work in the field of Internet networking, exchange ideas, and receive valuable feedback. Inspired by highly interactive Dagstuhl seminars, the event focuses on intensive exchange with only a small number of full-length talks. Most of the time is dedicated to brief participant introductions, poster sessions, and breakout group discussions on current and emerging topics such as transport protocols, DNS/DoH, low-latency networking, space networking, and research infrastructures.
The retreat is held annually at the TUM Science and Study Center Raitenhaslach near Burghausen, Bavaria, and typically runs over two days. In addition to the technical sessions, it provides opportunities for personal exchange and networking.
The event is organized by the Chair of Connected Mobility at the Technical University of Munich (TUM) together with Georg Carle (TUM), Lars Eggert (Mozilla), and Wolfgang Kellerer (TUM), and coordinated by Justus Fries. Since its launch in 2016, MIR³ will celebrate its 11th edition in 2026.
