Work Based Organizing
Project description
The manufacturing industry, particularly mechanical engineering and automotive supply, is currently experiencing a productivity crisis characterized by innovation stagnation and job losses. At the same time, technological and organizational changes are creating new fields of work that are making value creation increasingly complex.
The project aims to develop a new organizational model that redesigns the relationship between work, technology, and organization. The focus is on the concept of “Work Based Organizing” (WBO), which aims to empower employees to master the challenges of modern value creation in a flexible and creative manner. WBO promotes resilience and continuous learning in the workplace.
Research contribution
As part of WBO, fortiss is developing a digital, modular process cockpit that helps companies map, analyze, and develop their work and organizational processes in a structured way. At the heart of this approach is a formal knowledge base that enables semantic process models and technically anchors the WBO principles. In addition, the cockpit integrates analysis and evaluation functions that compare different process variants, highlight their resilience and adaptability, and suggest improvement options.
The model is being tested in four real-world application scenarios, with practice-oriented tools and strategies being developed in collaboration with the companies and then adapted to the needs of small and medium-sized enterprises.
