Improved production planning and coordination through industrial platform ecosystems

PRODISYS

The project PRODISYS pioneers the approach for the creation of prototypical industrial platform ecosystems with connected and combinable services for an improved planning and coordination of the production and the linked areas.

Project description

The digitatization of the industry (Industry 4.0) does not only make the optimization of the processes or the production possible but also the integration of new potentials of added value through the development of platform based ecosystems. Such systems enable the connection and composition of services and processes which have been designed and controlled independently of each other so far. Synergy effects can be achieved by this composition and a continuous data flow without media discontinuity can be obtained. However, the implementation in practice often fails because a linkage during the conception of the proprietary individual service was not provided and therefore it can only be achieved by big individual development effort, especially within a cross-company cooperation.

The project PRODISYS pioneers the approach for the creation of prototypical industrial platform ecosystems with connected and combinable services for an improved planning and coordination of the production and the linked areas.  Here besides the conceptual reorientation of service systems for the pooling and the organization of performances the integration of the data of plants, orders and production is addressed.  For the connection of services as well as for the integration of the data suitable models and digital representations are necessary. Aside from the technical challenges the factor of productivity is also identified during the implementation at the companies of the project partners and based on the resulting models the flows of added value is analyzed.

Research contribution

The results of the project PRODISYS show how platform based ecosystems for the production can be developed for the long term to achieve a sustainable productivity increasing profit. At the end of the project this will be illustrated with a prototype of such a system that will be show how the maintenance can be improved and digitized. This open platform based ecosystem is developed based on a reference architecture which should enable the medium-sized companies to build platform based ecosystems by their own or to use the existing ones.

The open character of the platform is demonstrated and approved by the integration of different plants and services of the partners. In this way the platform offers the opportunity to third parties beyond the partnership to connect their own plants and services with the platform. In addition an own platform can be attached by third parties based on the guidelines and new participants, possibly also from other domains, are enabled to access to this ecosystem.
