AIOTI Testbed Catalogue

An open expert system acts as engine of success for IoT in Europe

The Alliance for Internet of Things Innovation (AIOTI) was created by the European Commission in 2015 with the goal of promoting the introduction of the Internet of Things (IoT), specifically in Europe. The aim is to strengthen dialogue and information sharing between the IoT players in order to create a dynamic IoT ecosystem. The AIOTI Testbed Catalogue provides a further important contribution. The catalogue was coordinated by and created under the leadership of Prof. Rute C. Sofia from fortiss within the framework of the AIOTI IG Testbeds workgroup.

The report “Testbed Catalogue AIOTI IG Testbeds” provides a compact overview and a detailed description of 40 test environments created in various vertical fields of application by the AIOTI members, including manufacturing, energy, smart cities and logistics.

This report corresponds to the “Testbed Catalogue” under development within the IG Testbeds AIOTI group. The report comprises a set of testbed descriptions based on a specific format and aims to contribute to a coordinated view on testbeds derived from content provided by AIOTI partners, the use-cases being developed, the European competitiveness domains being addressed and a global perspective based on the partners’ interest in testbeds

Most of the AIOTI activities are carried out through workgroups that focus on various areas of development in the field IoT: research, innovation, policy issues, norms and various horizontal activities that cover current IoT topics. Prof. Dr. Rute C. Sofia, head of one of the fields of competence at fortiss, developed and created the whitepaper within the framework of the AIOTI IG Testbed workgroup. This group is led by Prof. Sofia and Charles Sturman (Huawei Technologies UK).

The document is intended for researchers, government decision-makers, engineers and small-to-medium enterprises with an interest in existing infrastructures and innovative application scenarios in various competitive environments in Europe.

The report furthermore serves as an excellent dissemination tool for using the content in other AIOTI groups and for coordinating joint efforts, such as through application scenario demonstrations or the development of test environments. The catalogue is a dynamic tool updated by the AIOTI members on a regular basis.
